Pricing structures to avoid

Potential clients judge you not only but the quality of work but by the way you appear and how your pricing is structured. Having a great selection of work is very imporant but just as imporant is what type of impression you give your potential clients.

In this post I explore how I believe clients view web design and development packages and how it negatively impacts their choice. I can relate to the desire of giving your potential clients a general idea of how much you charge. The use of split tier packages is however not best way to do this.

Although this works in other fields and areas of web design and development, like selling web hosting or themes, it does not work for freelancers.

Below are the main 3 reasons I believe this package deals don’t work and to solve this problem.

Social Networks – Why I’m not going to like your page

Every one knows about facebook, twitter and all the various social networking sites. From the articles I have read on various internet marketing strategy blogs the general consensus is that every and all types of business should have some type of social networking strategy. I disagree in a few of the general principles of how and who should be using social networks.

I don’t deny the possibilities of using these networks to grow a business. They great for reaching out directly to your potential client base. The downfall is simply that social networks are just not for every company.

Hire Young

Finding the person or company who will be responsible for your web site is a scary process. You need someone with tons of experience but is that all you should look for?

I strongly believe first on the list, above experience, is youth. A company full of young excited people will create better results than old timers. Of course experience is always a plus but lets take a look at some reasons why I think young is better.

SEO: Meta tags are over rated

I cringe every time I hear from clients seeking advice on SEO. Everyone throws the term SEO around as if it is a sign of a successful business. The so called “professionals” want you to believe a SEO website will equal instant success – That SEO is all about the meta tags and keywords.

Search engine optimization is more then meta tags.

Meta tags still has its place as one aspect of your total web site. The concept behind seo is to build your site in a way that search engines can easily find and index your website. This is done by scanning your website.  How easily the site can be scanned and what they find is what counts.
